Access to a residential rehab

If you are looking to undergo residential rehabilitation for a drug or alcohol misuse issue, there are a number of ways you can apply for a place. It is important though to look into this type of treatment and make an informed decision as to whether it is right for you, as you may be better seeking rehabilitation in the community. There are also different types of approaches to rehabilitation, one of which may suit you more than another, for example 12 step and behavioural approaches.

You will need to have a clear plan as to why this type of rehabilitation will be of benefit to you, how long you require funding for e.g. detox only, detox and second stage etc. As well as a plan of continued recovery support for when you complete residential treatment.

1)     If you have access to private funding you can apply for a place at your chosen facility. You can obtain costs for this type of treatment for individual treatment centres, and the cost will vary depending on where you chose to go. Costs can range from £1,000 per week for a basic service to around £800 a day for a boutique service.

2)     If you are currently working with a drug or alcohol support agency, they will be able to help you look at whether this type of treatment is right for you, and if so they can support you with an application for funding for residential rehabilitation.

3)     The community detox team (funded by the Local Authority) can also complete community care assessments which request funding for residential rehab. You will need to be engaged in a community support group or service or successfully stabilised on a substitute medication (around 30 – 40ml).
