DHI is a local charity that was set up to help people out of the cycle of homelessness, social isolation and drug or alcohol abuse. Our aim is to offer people a wide range of services that help them gain control of their lives again and live independently.

We provide a comprehensive range of services in Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset for people who are socially excluded for reasons such as homelessness, alcohol or drug problems, learning disabilities or emotional difficulties.

We help people to turn their lives around by tackling both the causes and consequences of social exclusion through practical and emotional support services such as information, advice, housing, counselling, activities, and employment and training opportunities

DHI Bristol provides a range of services including support for the family and carers of individuals with drug and alcohol concerns.

DHI Bristol is part of the Bristol ROADS (Recovery Orientated Alcohol and Drugs Service).

What we do

Family and Carer Support

Support is available to anyone who is affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use such as a family member or friend.

Advice, information and signposting - this is available face to face, on the phone, via email or through a contact enquiry form on our website

A live website chat - (available for 2 hours a day) providing online communication with a member of staff (not active yet).

Assessment - is undertaken with everyone with work with to establish need in order to create an individual package of support

Support groups 
We will be delivering a number of support groups for family and carers of individuals with drug and alcohol concerns. 

Solution focused brief counselling – this is available as 1:1 and couples sessions

Family meetings

Parent and Carer Training Programme (PACT)

DHI is part of the Bristol ROADS (Recovery Orientated Alcohol and Drugs Service).

What we do

Tackling Discrimination and Stigma

DHI will be engaging with local communities to dispel misunderstandings around drugs and alcohol. This will include promoting closer working with the treatment service, those being supported in recovery and the communities in which they live.

If you are a community group, e.g. a faith group, a mutual aid group such as AA or a local organisation we can help in many ways:

Run a stall at your event

Speak at an event 

Talk to a group of people 

Provide information and advice on your website 

Arrange for a peer supporter to come and tell you or others their recovery story and help share awareness and understanding of what the journey entail

Resolve to Stop the Violence Programme (RSVP)

This programme address's abusive behaviour in domestic relationships. If you are working with someone who has acknowledged their behaviour and is looking to change then please consider a referral to this scheme.

Referral criteria:

  • Male
  • Aged over 18
  • Committed to addressing their abusive behaviour

We are able to deliver the services listed overleaf at any venue located within Bristol.

What we do

DHI will be providing a comprehensive recruitment, training, and support package to those in recovery through Bristol ROADS, so that they can provide the best encouragement to others in their recovery and develop skills for their own future.
