Services we Provide

Overview

We provide social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury and support and respite for their families through the services offered at our centres and through one to one outreach available across Bristol, North and North East Somerset, and South Gloucestershire. We individually tailor programmes that are designed to maximise quality of life, independence and self esteem. We promote an understanding of all aspects of brain injury, focusing not just on the impact on the individual but also on their families and others who care for them. We provide information, support and services for these people too, including assistance to source and access other much needed services.

What we do

Day Centre

Headway Centre is open Monday to Friday. As well as our main centre at Frenchay Hospital we have an outpost in Withywood that operates every Thursday. The outposts are in line with our policy of making services accessible.

We offer support in a variety of ways such as:

  • Crisis support – We offer immediate crisis advice and support in our centre, on wards or in home visits for families following a relative’s brain injury or admission to hospital.
  • One to one support – Individuals can call to arrange support meetings both within and outside of the Headway centre.
  • Confidential room – The resource library can be used as a confidential room in which to offer support. Please phone with as much notice as possible (at least 48hours) to ensure the room is available.
  • Signposting – We have close links with a number of agencies that can offer a wide range of services, support and advice.

Drop-in Sessions – We have a monthly evening drop-in (first Tuesday of month 7.30pm-9pm).

Social evening – Anyone who has had a brain injury is welcome to attend the social group. This is a great opportunity to get to chat and get to know one another a bit better and have lots of fun.

Outreach & Community

Our Outreach Services enable us to give more intensive one-to-one support to individuals who are working toward a level of independence. This might include helping them to develop social networks in their local community or to re-establish their domestic skills, or it might involve helping them access employment or training.

Carers

We offer a variety of services for carers – which can be accessed as much or as little as needed.  Carers can dip in and out as their needs change.

Independent Living Fund

Headway Bristol offers small grants from its Independent Living Fund to those living with an acquired brain injury, to enable them either to preserve their independence or to increase their ability to live independently.
