Open every week day from 9:00-1:00pm
The Open Door exists exclusively to help rough sleepers and those in emergency accommodation in the Taunton area.
Open Door is the ultimate safety net for some of the most marginalised people in Somerset.
Each and every one of them is a person to us. No matter what their situation, they are all worthy of respect, dignity, consideration and the fulfilment of their human needs.
We offer a warm environment in every sense, a well heated cafe-type room, nourishing hot meals and drinks at very low prices, fresh dry clothing and footwear, washing and showering facilities, help and advice and above all a smile and a listenig ear.

Overview
Open Door is the ultimate safety net for some of the most marginalised people on Somerset.
We offer a warm environment in every sense, a well heated cafe-type room, nourishing hot meals and drinks at very low prices, fresh dry clothing and footwear, washing and showering facilities, help and advice and above all a smile and a listening ear.
What makes Open Door tick is our clear focus, mainly on rough sleepers, plus a dedicated team of regular volunteers and the support of local churches, schools, charities, retailers and Taunton Deane Borough Council. We work in close partnership with Taunton Association for the Homeless.
What we do
Our door is open between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday. People come to us for the following:
- Food (breakfast, lunch, and snacks)
- Shower facilities
- Laundry services
- Clothes, blankets and warm dry clothng
- Phone charging
- Computer use and internet access
- Phone calls and postal address
- Help with benefits, job searching, CV writing, (especially in the DoMore@OpenDoor afternoon sessions)
- Signposting to other services, especially emergency accomodation through Taunton Association for the Homeless Outreach Team
- A listening ear

Our front door is round the back of the big red building with the tower on Mary Street in Taunton, just along from the main entrance of Vivary Park. Our big green door is on the left.
Our Opening Hours are 9am to 1pm Mondays to Fridays. With our DoMore@OpenDoor available in the afternoon.
How to access
There are three main ways of coming to us at Open Door.
- Referral by Taunton Deane Borough Council.
- Referral by the Taunton Outreach Team or any of our partner organisations such as Turning Point, IMPACT, Chamberlains or the Probation Service.
- Self referral - just come in and talk to us in the office.

What we do
We now have a service called "Do More at Open Door"
This also includes our new internet cafe and Job Club, where you can get help with benefits, job searching, CV writing, and get help looking for a job or voluntary work, and for local educational courses and training.
We also offer voluntary work opportunities for the long term unemployed to help build confidence and self worth.
