The Centre has the best sewing facilities in Bristol and possibly the Southwest with dedicated sewing workshops fully equipped to support upholstery courses, garment construction, soft furnishing, corset making and so much more.

What we do

What We Do

Many courses run throughout the academic year from 9.30am to 3pm to suite busy families – with evening courses from 6pm to 9pm and focused workshops at weekends and over school holiday breaks.

To make learning accessible to women the centre also has an onsite crèche for children 0 to 4 to offer child care to students on its courses.

At the heart of the Silai Centre is a café offering hot meals and snacks.

We work in partnership with City of Bristol College, Learning Curve, HillcroftCollege and The Learning Communities Team, to offer accessible and supported courses for students of all abilities, ages and backgrounds.

Some courses are free to those on certain benefits or fitting certain eligibility criteria as well as help with childcare costs. Any fees that are paid for courses or other services are re-invested in our charity helping us to provide inclusive and accessible services to all members of the community.
