Services we Provide

Overview

A phobia is an irrational fear of a person, thing or situation that most of us take in our stride. A person with a phobia will avoid the situation wherever possible. People can be afraid of ANYTHING!

TOP UK aim to help people overcome their fears through access to local sefl help groups (only currently available in Bath but expanding soon).

We also provide access to a variety of useful self help resources (some at a cost).

We also offer volunteering opportunities within our self help groups and are actively looking for group leaders in order to expand into Bristol.

What we do

All our self-help therapy groups meet once a week and are run by trained volunteers, many of whom have overcome a phobia or OCD themselves.

Our groups use a type of behaviour therapy which is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles and the work of Professor IM Marks. In many cases there is a long waiting list for therapy on the NHS but you should be able to access a TOP group immediately.

Is a TOP Group for Me?

If you agree with the following statements then a TOP group might be suitable for you:

  • I really want to get better
  • I have the time to attend a group every week
  • I am prepared to work on a self-help programme

It would be helpful if you could read chapters 11 & 12 of ‘Living with Fear’ by Professor Marks before joining one of our groups but it is not essential.

Where we do it

We currently only offer self help group access in Bath. Please contact us to find out where our sessions are delivered from.

We hope to expand further into the South West shortly, in particular Bristol.

How to access

Anyone who wishes to attend a group will need to complete an application form, none of our groups (with the exception of Jersey) are drop in. There is also a small weekly charge to attend a group but this is reduced for those on low incomes. Triumph Over Phobia does not receive any government funding and we rely on donations to continue our valuable work.
