Eco Minds Mental Health
Bath City Farm runs a sustainable horticultural volunteering project that involves people with experience of mental distress in growing food, learning how to cook with the produce in our kitchen and selling it in our farm shop.
The project aims to encourage healthy lifestyles and eating habits through practical horticulture and gardening activities to create and develop a large plot of land within Bath City Farm. The site is used to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers, as well as providing a community area for socialising and relaxing.
Adult Courses
Throughout the year we run regular adult education courses for people with few or no qualifcations (below Level 2) in subjects including
- animal care,
- gardening,
- conservation,
- crafting,
- cookery,
- countryside crafts
- IT.
Some courses are run by City of Bath College Community Learning, with sessions taught both by our own staff and visiting tutors.
From 2013 we are now offering accredited qualifications through the Open College Network in horticulture and Animal Care.
Where we do it
All activities we offer take place at the farm:
Volunteering
Mondays: General volunteering (animal care and gardening). We also offer supported work placements on this day.
Wednesdays: for those looking to get back into work (in particular landscaping/grounds maintenance) we have a more contract level group of volunteers who carry out construction/maintenance tasks around the farm including fencing and path construction.
On Wednesdays/Thursdays we also run a volunteering project for those who have experienced mental distress, where you can learn how to grow and cook with garden produce as well as take part in crafting, jam-making and baking activities. This project is funded by Ecominds.
Eco Minds
