Pathways Covered
Overview

Genesis LifeSkills project provides activities, training and mentoring designed to help those who are in recovery develop the skills that they will need to re-enter the world of work.
Genesis Furniture Project offers work-placement opportunities for those seeking employment.
What we do
Life Skills
This is a structured timetable of free courses from Monday - Wednesday and Friday in subjects ranging from creative writing to computer drop in sessions. Life Skills also works closely with local organisations to provide one-off workshops and courses as well as days out, retreats and one-to-one mentoring.
Skills we develop include:
- Literacy and numeracy
- Food for thought
- Art and craft taster sessions
- Music and Art therapy
- Games
Computer Skills
Clients can book an hour or half hour session with a volunteer ‘computer expert’
to assist with specific learning needs. These can vary from the basic, “How do I
type up my CV neatly?” To the more complex, “Can you teach how to use Excel?”
A regular Monday afternoon slot is dedicated to empowering our clients to access and use free internet facilities in the computer room. For example we can help with:
- letter writing,
- accessing the housing website,
- applying for accommodation
- jobs online
- setting up email accounts
As the session is one-one it will be at your own pace and match your requirements.
Job Placements
We also offer job placements to the long term unemployed through many local agencies or through individual interest.
Tasks include:
- loading and unloading the vans with furniture,
- dealing with customers,
- administration tasks in the office,
- answering the telephone
We are always interested in hearing from volunteers.
