About Rework

re:work is a registered charity and social enterprise established in 1999 for the benefit of people living in South Bristol and the residents of Knowle West in particular.

We aim to provide unemployed people, including young people excluded from education, with real work experience through which they can acquire a range of skills and so improve their chances of finding employment.

Pathways Covered

Education, training and employment

re:work offers some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised individuals a chance when no one else will.

Working alongside our trained staff they develop skills in construction re:build, gardening and landscaping re:grow and furniture restoration and retail re:store.

What we do

Our construction project takes on commercial contracts from kitchen refits to garden fencing.

We are also part of a small local consortium 'Future Fit Bristol' planning to implement a retro-fitting scheme which will bring houses in Knowle West up to modern energy-efficient standards.

Those involved are aged between 15 and 68.

For the past eight years we have held the contract to maintain the grounds of the Knowle West Health Park. Daily litter picking and our ability to respond promptly has reduced anti-social behaviour on the site to a minimum, helping to create one of the few well maintained green spaces in our community.

re:grow also maintains gardens for over 75 elderly or living with disability local residents.

Urban Agriculture Scheme

The 'Edible Landscapes Movement', we are one of a number of local organisations working together to grow and distribute fruit and vegetables across Knowle West.

Trainees acquire practical gardening skills, improve their awareness of healthy eating, and learn to work to be part of a team providing a service, often for vulnerable people in their community.

Student Placement

Our training platforms benefit young people (13+) who are excluded or likely to be excluded from school or college, or for whatever reason find accessing the school curriculum a struggle.

We take on the most challenging individuals, including young offenders, with difficulties including behavioural issues, low levels of basic skills, health problems, learning difficulties and family problems.

We have an excellent record for increasing the work skill levels, self esteem and social interactions of our students.

A placement costs £44.50 per day per student*, with most students starting with one day per week. We can work to support any targets that you may have for your young person, and they will keep a work based diary to record their achievements.
