What we do

PRIMARY CARE

This initial period of treatment lasts for 8-12 weeks. Detoxification programmes are available at this stage if necessary for both drugs and alcohol.

You will be allocated a residential space on admission in one of two Primary Care properties: All clients attend their centre daily except when undertaking the twice weekly single gender days.

The Primary Care stage of treatment focuses on the addiction and its impact on the addict, their family, friends and community. Daily routine includes:

  • attendance at two or three group therapy sessions per day
  • workshops
  • lectures
  • one-to-one counselling

New clients to the service attend an Induction Group for the first week or two of treatment to help with integration and engagement in the process.

Medical Liaison  - a medical liaison worker runs single sex health-care groups such as Well Woman and Well Man clinics and smoking cessation groups which are available to all clients.

SECONDARY CARE

In Secondary care you are supported as you begin your reintegration into the community and are expected to attend educational or vocational training courses and start voluntary work.

To be eligible for second stage treatment you must be have been abstinent from all mood-altering substances (illicit drugs and/or alcohol) for a minimum period of four weeks. You must have completed a programme of primary care conducive with the 12 Step philosophy and have a good understanding of abstinence.

Attendance at external support meetings such as AA or NA is a fixed element of the programme and and we require you to attend a minimum of three meetings per week.

Every week Professional therapists come to the Centre. You can request regular, or one-off holistic therapy such as:

Counsellors may also recommend treatments which they feel will benefit particular clients.

Overview

The work we do in supporting families is central to our role as a treatment provider and the recovery of our clients.

Through advice and education our Family Programme helps the family understand their role in addiction and recovery. Family members need to realise and admit the part they might have played in enabling their addict; such as lying for them, giving them money or making excuses for them.

It is essential that families living with drug and alcohol misuse need to be supported particularly with their fears and anxieties, as well as having an understanding of the treatment process their son/daughter/wife/father/husband/sibling is going through.

What we do

We offer a family focussed program to support families and concerned others to support their loved ones and also recieve support themselves.

This one day programme will help participants to:

  • Develop a better understanding of addiction
  • Examine their roles in the family system
  • Establish strategies for identifying and addressing addictive behaviour
  • Learn from the experience of others
  • Gain the support necessary to make changes that improve their situation

It is important to take some details of family history and any significant past events, positive or negative, that may have a bearing on how you look at life and you current feelings.

If you and the counsellor agree that counselling can help, you will be asked to commit to a series of counselling sessions. These may be weekly or more often depending on your needs and ability to attend (e.g. if you have to take time off work).
