Overview

Every year in England and Wales approximately 200,000 children have a parent sent to prison. There are no systematic records of who these children are and of their needs.
Research has shown that parental imprisonment has a direct impact on children's mental wellbeing, academic achievement and behaviour and increases the likelihood of intergenerational offending.
What we do
Research around the impact of imprisonment on children and families is limited due to the absence of any overall ‘ownership’ of the issue to date. i-HOP provides a national one-stop information and advice service for all professionals working with children and families of offenders, including frontline staff from the criminal justice system, voluntary sector, education, health, housing and social care, as well as those responsible for strategic development and commissioning.
Where we do it
i-HOP is a web based knowledge hub which brings together all the up-to date resources to support professionals. i-Hop also provides a free helpline for professionals working with the children of offenders: 0808 802 2013.
How to access
By signing up to i-HOP you will be able to submit your organisation's information, search i-HOP's directory and receive the monthly e-bulletin. To sign up for your own i-HOP account then visit: https://www.i-hop.org.uk/app/utils/create_account
