We cover the whole of the Mendip area including Frome, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Street, Wells and surrounding villages.

Services we Provide

Overview

Mendip YMCA is a local charity that offers accommodation and support to vulnerable young people and youth and community for all.

What we do

We offer a variety of accommodation support including:

  • Accommodation with support for ages 16-25 (part of the Pathways to Independence Contract. See here for more information.
  • Move on Scheme - all ages. Linking people with accommodation vacancies. There is an updated weekly list of available rented property. A number of landlords are registered on the scheme and are offered support and advice on renting out their property.
  • Private Rented Sector Scheme - Age 18+ Practical Support with a Mendip YMCA worker with a primary focus on prevention of homelessness to single  homeless or couples without dependents to access, secure and maintain private rented sector housing.
  • Deposit scheme. This is a "guarantee" against damage or theft caused by the tenant or up to 3 weeks eligible rent. This is available for the first 6 months of the tenancy. Applicants should be in receipt of benefits or be on a very low income and have a local connection to the Mendip area.
  • Emergency Host Family Accommodation. Emergency accommodation provided in family homes, with support given by YMCA staff to secure permanent accommodation or support a return home.
  • Family Mediation Scheme. A scheme which aims to reduce the number of 16-25 year old becoming homeless.

Overview

Mendip YMCA offers youth and community work and provides training and programmes to help develop the skills and knowledge required to improve the persons chances of securing and maintaining a tenancy.

What we do

We run youth and community projects across Mendip.

We also run a Tenancy Accreditiation Scheme for over 18s. This programme is delivered on a one to one basis to people of all ages, to help develop the skills and knowledge required to improve the persons chances of securing and maintaining a tenancy in private landlord and social housing.

Frome Youth and Community Centre - Wednesdays 7pm-9pm
Coleford Youth Club - Tuesday 7pm-9:30pm
Windmill Hill Youth Club - Wednesday 7pm-9:30pm
Street Young Peoples Centre - Monday and Tuesday 7pm-9pm

The Tenant Accreditation Scheme is offered to individuals over 18 years old and living in the Mendip area.

We also run a Drop in Centre for young people at the Frome Foyer which includes a youth cafe. Information is available on a range of topics including advice and guidance.
